The following is a summary of the homeschool requirements in Georgia; however, I encourage you to inform yourself by reading the homeschool requirements as set forth by the Georgia Department of Education as well. You may also want to check out their Home School FAQs.


Compulsory School Age:
Children in Georgia MUST attend school "between 6th and 16th birthdays"; a child under 7 who has attended public school for more than 20 days is also subject to the compulsory attendance law
Starting a Home Study Program:
File a declaration of intent with your local superintendent within 30 days of beginning the home study program, and by September 1st each year after
Teacher Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED for a teaching parent; high school diploma or GED for any private tutor used
Attendance:
A minimum of 180 days per year, 4 1/2 hours per day. (Attendance forms must be submitted at the end of each month to your local school system, see "Recordkeeping" below)
Required Subjects:
Reading, language arts, math, social studies, and science (Please note these are the MINIMUM requirements by law, colleges generally require more for admission).
Recordkeeping:
Maintain attendance records and send at the end of each month to the local school system; write and retain an annual progress report. You keep annual progress reports in your records at home and do not submit them to the public school office.
Testing:
Administer and retain the results of a nationally recognized standardized test every 3 years beginning at the end of the 3rd grade. You keep these in your records at home and do not submit them to the public school office.
