| The witty, outspoken Kerwin Gary Ebanks was born on March 14, 1983. According to relatatives he was drawing shapes while learning to read and write. He attended John Cumber Primary School and excelled academically. His teachers acknowledge his vivid creative writing and admit that drawings were commonplace in his school books. While attending George Hicks High School, Kerwin tired of the monotonous routine of school except art class. This attitude to academics was also carried over to John Gray High School, he opted to take two sections of art! He was only granted one. He eagerly pursued the instruction of his art teachers. Kerwin's grandfather's stories, keen observations, countless fishing trips, and his natural ability for story - telling created Kerwin's definitive styles of art. Upon his graduation from high school he received the art department's award of excellence. While attending the University of Evansville, he learned more concepts and techniques. His constant longing for home and familiarity with Cayman were put to canvas, and his professors granted him a lot of free range. Kerwin was initiated into the international honorary art fraternity, Kappa Pi, in 2002. He is currently pursuing a B.S. degree in Technology Education at the University of South Florida. I believe it is safe to assume that his love for art will never leave him. He notes that his influences include marine artists Guy Harvey and Carey Chen. To broaden his horizons and to add styles and techniques to his repertoire, Kerwin wants to travel throughout the Caribbean. |
