From inside his house, he watched the snow blanket his tired, blue, egged, Corolla.  He rubbed the edges of an empty cardboard box once containing a six-pack of High Life that
was now keeping him warm in his unbearable house.  He was still
numb from her final words.

Across town a second was kicking off the sagging rung of an
aging fencepost.  His shit-brown 1979 Nova sputtered in the background.  Her words echoed in his head as he constantly
recalled earier events. An empty pint of Jim Beam was his only
companion.

The third was too busy blowing smoke-rings in a freezing shed
warmed only by a struggling kerosene heater to notice the chill that was setting in.  His headphones kept him from hearing the bad.

The bad that was creeping through the small wintery town.
