Glori-Anne : Mistress of Halloween
By Jon Keeyes
For those unfamiliar with this 25-year-old beauty, Glori-Anne has been living the big life since she was eighteen and making quite a name for herself. Starting off as a feature entertainer on the club circuit, she eventually evolved into modeling, and more recently, acting. Glori-Anne can be seen in the b-movie horror films Vampire Callgirls and Dream Witch, along with a whole slew of new films coming out this month. We caught up with this "mistress of Halloween" to find out what's coming up and why she love's Halloween.
GC: What projects do you have going on right now?
GLORI: Actually, I'm getting ready to film a bikini car wash movie. And I have my first SAG (Screen Actors Guild) movie coming up where I play a regular acting role.
GC: What's that one about?
GLORI: It's about the Air Force. We are shooting that in early October. It's a small role but I'm looking forward to it.
GC: What's the bikini car wash movie?
GLORI: It's basically an excuse to have five super-sexy girls in bikinis who try to figure out a way to make their car wash work. It's being made by Jim Wynorski. Lorissa McComas and I are the two main girls and they still have the rest of the casting to do.
GC: Will it be going to video?
GLORI: Yeah. It'll be going to video and Showtime.
GC: What else is coming up?
GLORI: Vamps 2 should be coming out in October. Also, the DVD version of Evil Ambitions. I'm really excited about Evil Ambitions. They're both done by the same director. Evil Ambitions I thought was a really good movie except that it didn't have any nudity. I'm not bisexual, but if you're going to watch a b-movie with good looking girls in it. . . why isn't there any nudity? I mean I thought the movie was really good but I didn't get the lack of nudity, and the director was like, "I know. That was the stupidest thing I ever did." Apparently, his wife at the time - who he has since divorced - was embarrassed by the nudity in the first Vamps so he didn't put any in Evil Ambitions. However, I feel that in b-movies, gratuitous nudity is what makes them so much fun. So for the DVD they reshot three scenes to edit back into it, and I'm in it along with Penthouse Pet Dakota Summers. And they had like two-minutes of original scenes with nudity that had been cut, so they are reediting and putting that back in also. But I like that it's a movie I liked to begin with and now I get to be in it. David Leevy - who plays the evil politician - we did a great scene together and he has a great scene with Dakota Summers also. So the scenes we did for that get to show him being even more evil.
GC: How do the two of you end up figuring into the storyline?
GLORI: David mentions in the movie that his wife is gone all the time and is always tied up. So they have a scene where he has Dakota tied to a table, and she's like, "Please, honey, let me go." And he's like, "Bitch, bitch, bitch. That's all you ever do." Then he kills her. And she did this great scream. And then there's this scene where Crystal Waters is in David's office - that looks more like a dungeon - and you see Crystal tied up naked to this chain fence thing in the background. And I'm the secretary and I'm in this tight corset with my hair done-up and glasses on and I'm practically naked just crawling all over him while he's on this normal business phone call. And I just think that it's so great that I'm getting to be in this even better version of Evil Ambitions.
GC: How did you get brought in to this?
GLORI: Originally, I was going to do a movie for them called Virgin Blood - I was cast as the lead. Well, at the same time Vamps came out on DVD and was doing fantastic so the distributor called them and said they needed to get on the ball and get Vamps 2 out. The original actress from the first one is no longer acting and they didn't know what they were going to do about replacing her. So because I was already doing Virgin Blood they decided to use me, and they did a really great job of explaining why the character looks totally different. And then Vamps 2 led to me doing the extra scenes for Evil Ambitions.
GC: And what is Vamps 2 about?
GLORI: It's actually a continuation of the first one instead of one of those sequels were you just do the same thing all over again and put a "2" on the end of it. Basically, it sounds like a bad Jerry Springer vampire episode. I play a vampire stripper who is shacked up with her boyfriend - an ex-priest - who then becomes pregnant and finds out her child is the redeemer. When my child is born he will supposedly be able to save vampires and give them their souls back. So we end up having a big fight with the evil vampires to save my baby and the vampire world.
GC: How long did it take to shoot Vamps 2?
GLORI: We shot for three weeks. And we shot it in Cincinnati like four weeks after all these riots there because a cop shot a black minor. We were shooting in that same area of town the whole time. It was pretty fun. They had all the press came down one day and it just happened to be the day we were killing everybody for the big fight scene. So I got on with the press advertising it as "Cincinnati's St. Valentine's Day Massacre" because everyone but me was getting killed. The press would be like, "Oh, you look like the nice, sweet one." And I was like, actually, I'm going to be killing five people today.
GC: And when is this coming out?
GLORI:Both Vamps 2 and the Evil Ambitions DVD are coming out in October. I talked with the director the other day and he said they are on schedule for that release.
GC: Is there anything else coming out?
GLORI: There's Tales from the Blood Vault. It was done by Kurt Landau who does the Vampirerotica comic book series. I star in that, which is his first movie. They are re-editing it after the first version because they wanted to add some more stuff into it, and it should be out for October also. So I have three things coming out. And then I have my own personal series of videos. Glori-Anne Makes the Maid 4, starring Holly Montana - Miss Nude World - comes out in October also.
GC: How do people get that?
GLORI: People can order it through my website and they can also order my catalogue that has trading cards, glossy pictures, and everything like that. The website is www.glorianne.com, and they can email me at [email protected]. And then I have a hotline that people can always call, which is 412-355-8451.
GC: Well, what other movies have you done?
GLORI: I've done Vampire Callgirls and I did Dream Witch. And then I had this company call up and ask if I'd be interested in hosting this series of sexy vignettes and I'd be this Elvira-like hostess. So as I introduce each vignette as I'm getting more naked until I have my own climactic scene. That's been really great for me getting more bad girl roles. A lot of people think because I have a sweet, baby doll face I couldn't be a bad girl even with the right hair or make-up. So when I did this hostess job, I started getting taken more seriously by companies to play girls that are bad. I don't ever take any roles where I'm just a victim that gets killed. Usually that means you have to be a bad girl, so I've had to turn down a lot of roles because I didn't want to be just another victim. I think what you do is how you develop your fans, and I didn't want to have a bunch of fans that are getting turned on by seeing me get sliced up. That just doesn't appeal to me. I prefer having them see me as the sweet, innocent girl but knowing I have this side to me where I can be this total S&M dom.
GC: How did you get into acting?
GLORI: I always did acting in school and stuff. When I went into feature entertaining I was eighteen but because of my baby doll face I look more like fifteen. And it was difficult to avoid the casting couch system. So I didn't pursue the acting because of that. But then horror movies started becoming more popular again and I started getting offers without having to worry about the casting couch system. And I have been doing the feature dancing for so long that I can afford now to choose what I want, and even go to Los Angeles to get other roles if I want to.
GC: Have you always been a fan of horror?
GLORI: Always. Halloween is my favorite holiday. I've always liked older men - my whole life - and I think the idea of Dracula being the older man that liked young girls was great. You know, if a forty year old gets with a sixteen year old, there's no relationship there. But Dracula always seemed to have these real relationships so that to me was a man come true. And then there was the whole thing when you're younger that you're not supposed to have sex until you're married. But if Dracula came to you, he could make you do it against your will and it wouldn't count. So you could be taken advantage of but still be considered a good girl. And I just think it's fun to feel scared as long as it's not dangerous. That's why I love going to amusement parks, roller coasters, Halloween houses because it feels scary but you're not really going to get hurt. And I think the same thing is true for scary movies. If your life was in mortal danger in real life that would be a scary thing. But when you can just pretend you're a character in the movie you are watching - that's fun. It's fun to be scared watching a movie because you get to laugh it off later.
So I've always found Halloween to be fun. Me, I don't like candy. I don't like any sweets at all. I'm also a vegetarian. Not for health reasons. Ever since I was eight years old, my parents let me become a vegetarian just because I don't like meat. So my parents used to love the fact that I was the best trick-or-treater ever, and then I'd just hand my parents my candy. But I would just have fun going around carrying the bag, dressing up and running around at night.
GC: What is Halloween like for you now?
GLORI: It's a little embarrassing but I think about Halloween every damn day of the year. I don't want to sound weird but it really is my favorite holiday. And because I travel so much, I always put out my Halloween decorations the first day I'm home in September because I'm not home very much to enjoy them. I have more Halloween decorations than most people have Christmas. I have a Halloween tree that's black and I hang ornaments off of it. And then I have all the kids in the neighborhood come over and we make playdough ornaments that we bake and then paint them. And every single room in the house is done up, even the bathroom. Like when you go for the toilet paper the roll will give you this evil laugh.
I also make this blood from red food coloring, water and corn syrup. If you cover your mirrors with it and then wipe it off until you can't tell it was on there, everytime the mirror steams up your mirror will bleed. It really freaks people out. Sometimes if I have houseguests over I'll write something like: Melissa, you're next! And then you'll hear them scream when they get out of the shower.
I even have a dog that's Halloween related. His name is Bunicula. The name is from one of my favorite book series from when I was a kid. It was named "Bunicula: The Vampire Rabbit". So my labrador puppy, I named him Bunicula.
GC: What's a favorite Halloween memory?
GLORI: Here's a kinky one. MTV had Night of the Living Dead on one year, and me and my boyfriend were watching it and I had sex for the first time while watching that movie. I ended up meeting the people that made that movie and when I told them about it, they sat down and were like, "That memory is going to stay with us for the rest of our life. We don't care what we had to go through making that movie. Now it's all worth it." But that movie was so scary and it turned me on. Of course, I only made it until the last fifteen minutes of the movie so at the time I had no idea how it ended. That movie really worked!
When I was in high school I used to love making out to the soundtrack from Halloween. My boyfriend and I would be in my bedroom in the dark, and there's this one part of the soundtrack that gets really intense suddenly. I had the thing memorized. So we'd be making out and as that part would hit, I'd grab him and he'd completely flip out and fly out of the room. But I'd always judge a guy by how he reacted. If he jumped and was cool about it that was great. But if he let out this girlie scream, I'd be like, I don't want to go out with him anymore. It was my relationship test.
