INDIANA WANTS ME
GOTTA SEE JANE
MA BELLE AMIE
Personnel:
Eddie Kendricks went solo in 1971, although he left Motown for Arista (1978) and Atlantic (1981). He died:
DAVID RUFFIN (1964-68) replaced original member Temptation member, Elbridge Bryant. David Ruffin left the Temptations to pursue a solo career and eventually left Motown for Warner Brothers in 1979.
Damon Harris (Eddie's 1st replacement). Damon came from "Impact", in 1971 and went back to them in 1976. Damon sang lead on 'Papa Was A Rolling Stone'. His solo career never went big.
DENNIS EDWARDS was from The Contours. Dennis Edwards went solo, between 1977-1980. . When the group jumped to Motown, Dennis remained at Motown and Louis Price replaced him. When the Temptations returned to Motown, Dennis briefly rejoined before leaving the group. Ali-Ollie Woodson replaced him as lead singer.
Richard Street was from The Monitors.
Ali-OllieWoodson sang lead on "Treat Here Like A Lady" and "Special".
When they left Motown they recorded albums for Atlantic: "Hear To Tempt
You" 1977 and "Bareback' 1979. On those albums, Louis Price sang lead
in Dennis Edwards' place. Louis Price vanished, until he recorded a 1991
solo album, for Polygram/Motown.
1984-present:
In 1987, Hall & Oates got Ruffin & Kendrick (he lost the "s" to Motown) a record deal, at RCA. I think, RCA Records only released 1 album "Ruffin & Kendrick". They sung backup on a live Hall & Oates' album too.
In 1987 only, Dennis replaced Ali, for the The Temptations "Together Again" 1987 album. I think, Ali was booted for allegedly doing drugs.
In 1988, Dennis was kicked out for alleged drug use and Ali came back.
So, it wasn't until 1988; not the early 1980s, when Dennis joined David and Eddie and they were all probably in a fake group of Tempts with two backup singers.
Currently, Dennis Edwards and Richard Street (he retired from the real group, in 1995) lead fake groups. Richard, ironically, replaced Dennis in a fake group; so Dennis formed "The Knewtemps". Dennis previously led "The New Temptations" and "The Temptations Revue".
Melvin Franklin was shot at a carjacking in 1978.He had to miss the Temptations first tour of Poland and injuries from that shooting plagued him the rest of his life and contributed to his death.Paul Williams had sickle cell anemia, he shot himself to death in his car, right across from the Motown studios, in 1973 (two years after he was ousted from the group). The constant drinking certainly didn't help the sickle cell anemia. Lawrence Payton died of liver cancer
JUST MY IMAGINATION (RUNNING AWAY WITH ME)
MY GIRL
TREAT HER LIKE A LADY
*The Onion Song although credited to Tammi Terrell was actually Valerie Simpson. Apparently, Motown convinced Marvin that releasing the songs with Valerie's vocals could only benefit Tammi (who was no longer able to record), as it would provide extra cash for Terrell's family. Even though Marvin did agree to go ahead with the plan, he did feel "guilty." The other hit record which features Simpson's voice but credited to Terrell is "What You Gave Me."
It's been rumoured that David Ruffin, was responsible for Tammi's death due to his constant battering of his girlfriend. Speculations varies, according to Martha Reeves in her autobiography, James Brown, not David, was responsible. But according to the chapter about Tammi in the Women of Motown book, doctors denied any connection between brain cancer & any kind of injury. Getting hit in the head constantly can surely cause brain DAMAGE, though.
Tammi's younger sister, Ludie Montgomery is now writing a biography of the woman who was Tommy to her, Tammi to us.

Kim Weston and husband Mickey Stevenson left Motown for MGM. But not before she contributed several songs that would become classics in their own rights.

RESPECT YOURSELF
STEVIE WONDER Return Back to the Top
"Little Stevie Wonder" as Motown proclaimed him as on his first album release, did everything all but little. He wrote, produced, performed, discovered, invented, contributed, founded and in his spare time, sang his way into music history by being what he did best: a humanitarian. He wrote "Happy Birthday" in tribute to the great, late Martin Luther King who Stevie sought and won a national holiday for. In reference to Richard's Nixon political contributions to the White House he wrote the scathing, "You Haven't Done Nothing" and to educate the world about the importance of his heritage upon history, he reminded everyone the historical role of the "Black Man"
