Clinton Christian Battermann
May 16, 1924 - July 5, 2002
My grandfather, Clinton C. "Dick" Battermann, age 78, died Friday, July 5, 2002 at Danville Regional Medical Center. He had been sick for seven weeks and died of kidney failure and cardiomyopathy.

My sister and I always called him "PaPa".

PaPa was born in Ringgold, VA, May 16, 1924, the third child of nine for Frederick Christian August Battermann and Beatrice Hattie Keen Battermann.

He was a graduate of Dan River High School, and was a member of Kentuck Baptist Church where he had served as Deacon and Sunday school teacher.  He was also a member of Civitan, The Elks, and the Virginia-Carolina Field Trial Club.

Papa was a veteran of World War II, he served in the army and was a recipient of the Purple Heart while serving in the Battle of the Bulge Campaign.

My grandfather owned and operated Heat Service and Equipment Company until his retirement in 1991.

He married my grandmother, Doris Alise Davis Battermann on November 3, 1944.  They had only one daughter, my mother, Joan.  His only grandchildren were myself, and my sister Amy.

Other than his immediate family, he was survived by three brothers, C.R.B.*, B.K.B.*, and F.M.B.*  And two sisters, B.B.G.* and P.B.W.*.
Other than his parents, he was precdeceased by one brother, William August Battermann, and two sisters, Geraldine B. Swicegood and Emma B. Vick.

He now walks in the garden of the Lord...
Tarrying there until we see him again.

One is not gone
who touched the lives of others in such a warm and caring way
One is not lost
who warmed the lives of all around with freely given friendship
One is not forgotten
who found the way to others hearts and mapped a route to love
