Outside the Bot of the Emerald Buddha
Outside Gallery of the Bot of the Emerald Buddha
The Emerald Buddha is said to be carved from a single piece of jade (not emerald) and is about 26 inches tall.  This Buddha is dressed for the seasons in one of three costumes.  The costume at the right is for the winter season.

Surrounding the entire complex is the Ramakien Gallery which has 178 panels showing the complete story of the Ramakien.  In a nutshell, this is the story of a good king who triumphs over the evil demon king.

The last temple we visited was Wat Arun or the Temple of Dawn.  This temple complex sits on the Chao Phraya River and is almost entirely decorated with colorful pieces of broken porcelain.  The style of this Wat looks just like the Cambodian Wats, but much more colorful.

With all the touring we did in Bangkok, I still feel we really did not get a good sense for Thailand.  Hopefully, someday, we will return to see the parts we missd.
