Poem To The Old Timer From Dixie

Dear Elbert,
Since your birthday's rolled around
I've been doing lots of pondering
About all the things I've learned from you
And I began to wondering
Should I jot down a few of these
things I've learned so that I won't
forget them before the page is turned?
Let's see.......
I learned the southern language truly is an art
And teaching it to others, you surely do your part.
So many things I won't forget
I wish I could name them all
there is one thing you'd like to do
That's drink a glass of colesterol.
They tell you that they take it out
To try and help to heal you
But you'd drink it up in one big "gulp"
To prove that it won't kill you.
You've ask around at all the stores
But there's no help a'tall
Seems like nobody's got a
glass of Colesterol!
Then there's the time you went to jail
You were not a real good sport
But you said your peace and got locked up
For being in contemp of court.
And there's your plan to turkey hunt
In your lime green leisure suit
A boat paddle to whack his head
And a pellet gun to shoot!
The hanging judge who rides in town
I can see him through the fog
Riding on his big black horse
Followed by his dog.
You'd go to jail for any crime
And when the judge rides round
If you're in jail when he arrives
You surely will go down!
You said that we are truely blessed
If we can count on just one hand
The people we can count on
To call you a good friend
The good times that we all have shared
I hope they never end.
For now I'll keep on listening
Happy Birthday My Good Friend
From: Dixie

P.S. And Christmas at the Wright house
I know just how you felt
When Ramey opened up his gift
And Got Another Belt!!

This is a poem written for the Old Timer on his birthday from Dixie Jones
