| Introduction: | |||||||||||||||||||
| Although only a small recognition, this is a contribute to all of those who fought and died during D-Day, June 6th 1944. Although we honor all of those who fought in World War II, or even any U.S. war which involved American troops going to battle; we focus primarily on those who fought on D-Day. For this was the single battle which completely turned the tides of World War II and put the Axis (Excluding Italy + Japan), on the defensive. If it weren't for the bravery and selfless acts of courage, the battle may have been a complete catastrophy. We honor these specific soldiers for what they did and what they stood for. Many volunteers; going through training more intense than the average soldiers (Although unaware of their mission at first), putting themselves in harms way to fight for what was right. Every soldier there that day had a purpose, and one way or another becoming a hero: Helping a friend in need, take a bullet, full filling a required objective, putting order into a once complete mess of a situation, leading the way to the enemy, bringing aid to those who needed it, and so much more. World War II in Europe was not Americas war, more less was it in World War I, but British, Canadian, and American troops fought for what they knew was right. It was no one's "job" to liberate France, or any other country under Nazi control. To these men, it wasn't a question of whether it was their "job" or not, they fought because they knew it was right. Due to the acts of those on D-Day, not only were just countries liberated, so were oppressed, innocent, people. It was this one day that lead to the liberation of France, Poland, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Belgium, Netherlands, and more. It also lead to the liberation of the imprisoned Jews, gays, political oppenents of the Nazis, and the killing of many other groups that weren't fit for the 3rd Reich. Because of this one day, hundreds to millions of people may have been saved. For these reasons, we honor all of those who fought on that Day of Days. For those very reasons and more, we have created this contribution to all of those fought there that day. |
