CHL Institutes Automatic Icing Rule for 2002-2003 Season

The Canadian Hockey League announced today that the automatic icing rule will be utilized in all CHL games commencing with the 2002-2003 playing season.

The Canadian Hockey League has adopted automatic icing as an extension to the current fast face-off rule relative to style of play, and more importantly, to hopefully reduce the potential of injury.

In addition, the CHL has also adopted a rule which will see an automatic game misconduct assessed to any player who receives a major penalty for either charging or elbowing, with particular emphasis being placed on any blow to the head area.

Both rules will be effective commencing with the 2002-2003 Canadian Hockey League Exhibition Schedule of games.
