Above: 5087, when new in NWFB, served on route 8P.
China Motor Bus ended its franchised bus service on 31st August, 1998, which was then continued by New World First Bus (NWFB). NWFB bought all second-hand air conditioned buses from CMB, except two Volvo Olympians, VA62 and VA64, which were retained by CMB until 2001 and sold to Citybus.
In 1999 NWFB introduced 40 Volvo Super Olympians. They were fitted with a modified type of Alexander ALX500 body, and were assembled in Alexander's own plant in Falfrik. NWFB allocated 5xxx as the fleet number of these buses. The buses were commonly allocated to Tseung Kwan O Kowloon Routes and the Eastern District.
More and more of the Super Olympians began their service in early 2001. 5061 is the first bus with an Euro III engine in the fleet.
NWFB also purchased two ex-HIACL 12m Volvo Olympians with Plaxton body which entered passenger service in 2000.
NWFB is currently doing a refurbishment programme on the ex-CMB air-conditioned buses. The compartments have changed to standard NWFB's configurations: The floor changes to a colour of purple; All inner walls are retro-fitted with white or grey plastic boards; Seatings change to a 2+2 configuration; Continuous lighting is installed and all hand poles turn into light blue. All Leyland Olympians have been refurbished by June 2001, while all Volvos have been refurbished by September the same year.
