12-metre Volvo Super Olympians

NWFB started to introduce 12 metre Volvo Super Olympians in 1999. They are classified into five batches.

The first batch, 5001-5040, came into service in 1999. They are fitted with Alexander ALX 500 body kits and had, generally, the same mechanical specifications with the KMB ones. They are powered by Volvo D10A 285hp engines and ZF5HP590 gearboxes. Besides, they are equipped with Hanover electronic destination displays.

They second batch of 20, i.e., 5041-5060, entered service in around late 2000 and early 2001. Generally they are the same as the first batch, but Lazzerini seats has been introduced and additional grilles have been placed at the rear of the chassis.

The third batch, 5061-5079, is the batch which have entered service in mid-2001. The only difference between this batch and the second is that the buses in this batch of 19 are equipped with Volvo D10A Euro III 285hp engines, making them more environmentally friendly.

The fourth batch, 5080-5089, entered service in December 2001. Similar to the previous batch, these 10 buses are equipped with Euro III engines and ZF5HP590 gearboxes.

The fifth batch, 5090-5103, consists of 14 buses that entered service in late 2002. They are quite different from the previous NWFB Super Olympians in terms of appearance. Not only are they fitted with New China high-back seats, but they are also fitted with LED rear upper-deck headlights and route displays on the very top of the rear, just like the company's Tridents 1201-1221. Besides, these 14 buses use ZF6HP592 gearboxes instead of ZF5HP590.

This page contains photographs of Volvo Super Olympians in service. More photos will be added in the future.
