The FIFA decided to took over direct sponsors for the second Futasl World
Championships. Hong Kong offered a perfect venue in the Coliseum, a superb sports arena on
the Kowloon waterfront and the Hong Kong FA engaged the Dutch 1989 captain, Vic Hermans,
as their indoor team coach to ensure they could hold their own against the 15 visiting
teams. The Hong Kong tournament proved what a long way Futsal had already come. The
matches were more skilful, more exciting (307 in 40 matches). In this tournament, Brazil
defended their title successfully with a 4-1 victory over the United States which was
coached by John Kowalsky. Iran came fourth after losing to Spain in the 3rd/4th game. Iran
received numerous awards. Saeed Rajabi received the Golden Boot Award for the top goal
scorer. Also Iran won another award for Manners.
