The man is Nikola Tesla.
"You don't look like spies from Edison."
They tell him that they are from the future and they are using a device from even farther into the future but it is broken. They ask if he thinks he can fix it. He seems skeptical but becomes more intrigued when they demonstrate the flashes the device is making now. He begins to examine it.
