PANEL 1
Opens with a half-page splash panel.
We are high up in the main reading room of a university library; the kind that has a bookshelved balcony running 10 feet above the floor along the walls (like Library of Congress). Under the balcony, small arched book-nooks are fitted on the ground floor; they look like small cave mouths. The broad open area at ground level has many long study tables occupied by college-level students.
In extreme foreground, seen from the back, is the dark silhouette of someone's sinister head and shoulders, blocking a significant portion of the panel. The silhouette is the absentminded Grad Student (G.S.) himself, who is not sinister at all. When we meet the G.S. a little later, he should be instantly recognizable as the silhouette in Panel 1.
The G.S. is looking down from the balcony at the students, particularly at two underage library users, Rob and Mandy. We may glimpse a bit of the G.S.'s Time-Box, which he's casually holding, perhaps about to put it away. (As we shall learn, the Time-Box is a PDA-like gadget that enables time travel.)
The semi-distant figures of Rob and Mandy are talking. (Because of distance, Mandy's dialogue balloon is a lot bigger than she is.)
In a lot of the dialogue in the university libs, Mandy's the questioner, looking at Rob, while Rob often confidently answers her while looking somewhere else.
MANDY: Rob, you're sure we're allowed to be in here?
PANEL 2
Ground level view of Rob and Mandy, who walk toward us. They look a little out of place. Because they're going to do research, each carries a notebook or twoor maybe only Mandy does. (The notebooks are not important to the plot.) In background, college students at long tables, studying, typing, using cellphones, etc.
ROB: (confidently) Sure, I'm sure. College libraries love having high school kids like us.
MANDY: And so we came through the loading dock?
From our POV we can see Library of Congress enigmatic cataloging labels on the bookshelf-ends ("PZ484747.9"). Also, a sign that says: "QUIET"; another sign that has a cellphone with an X through it.
