Pen drawing of Hussite War-wagons

Date Description Source Reference
1450 A.D. Single bell tent; simple flag pole and flag apex decoration, scalloped roof edge and centre pole visible through open door. The heraldic device of the Hussites (a chalice on a shield) is displayed on the roof.  “This pen drawing of Hussite War-wagons (c. 1450) demonstrates the way in which the Taborite armies under John Zizka and Prokop the Bald used mobile fortresses in the field, stocked with both crossbows and handguns. The tent in the centre bears a shield displaying the Hussite symbol of the chalice.” British Library.  Holmes, G., Ed., The Oxford Illustrated History of Medieval Europe, Oxford, 1988, p. 335.
