While some events of the past have little relevance to the future, other events affect the world significantly.  Wars and revolutions are among the noteworthy historical happenings because they often bring about drastic changes in thought and action.  The Great War is no exception.  The romantic-minded European citizens of the early twentieth century saw the Great War as the “war to end all wars” when in fact the Great War birthed the Second World War.  The results of the First World War were felt around the globe as the Great War changed the political face of Europe and in doing so set the stage for the political relations of the rest of the 20th century.
