From His heart and mine ...

Some of life's big questions

"You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13).

For all who are searching for answers to life's big questions ...

There are many excellent books that have been written about all the following questions that people have been asking for years. However, if you are a new believer or a "seeker" (i.e. person who is searching around for "The Truth"), it may be that you'll find it difficult to get hold of such books, for various reasons. Here, therefore, are some introductory materials that are available online:

 QUESTIONS ABOUT GOD

QUESTIONS ABOUT JESUS

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BIBLE

QUESTIONS ABOUT "RELIGION"

What about all the things there are to worry about?

Being a Christian hasn't suddenly turned me into someone without problems that threaten to flood my mind with worry, but sooner or later (hopefully sooner rather than later!), I remember to remind myself that:

(1) whatever happens, "all things work together for good to those who love God" (Romans 8: 28)

(2) whether things are or aren't going the way I want them to go, they are going the way God wants them to go, according to His purpose:

"For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Isaiah 55: 8-9)

(3) God loves us and knows what we need:

"So do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" ... your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6: 31-33)

(4) it is God's will for us to trust him in all things, not just the little things, not just the big things, but ALL things:

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:6-7, my emphasis)

(5) it is so much easier to see things in perspective when one keeps the eternal picture in view. There's nothing like James 4 to remind me that tomorrow I may get run over by a bus (so what good is worrying about all the various what-ifs that may or may not happen in the future?):

Come now, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit"; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away. Instead you ought to say, "If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that." (James 4: 13-15)

Our lives are indeed a "vapour", a mere drop in the vast ocean that is eternity. Have you thought where you will be spending eternity? If you've never thought of accepting Jesus Christ into your life, please consider it. It is not too late now, but one day it will be. I can't imagine my life without God in it, and it is my wish that you will come to feel the same too.
