"And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a-dying. But as he went the people thronged him. And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace." Luke 9:45-48
What a wonderful passage of faith portrayed here! Jarius came to Jesus to heal his daughter, not to raise her from the dead. His faith was small but his situation was desperate. He believed that Jesus would have to touch her! As Jesus began to deal with Jairus, He was interrupted by the woman with the issue of blood. The woman had been suffering with the affliction for twelve years. However, Jesus did not touch the woman. She touched Him! And was healed instantly! Keep in mind also, that the crowd was gathered about Him, pressing in on Him, and He was being touched by many ~ yet only the woman was healed. Jesus felt power (virtue) go out of Him and addressed the crowd as to who touched Him. When the woman realized that Jesus knew, she came forward and fell to her knees before Him. The entire crowd then heard her explanation why she had touched him and that she had been immediately healed.Many people surrounded Jesus that day on His journey to Jairus' home. But one woman's faith helped her to reach Him as she desperately fought her way through the multitude of people. She believed Jesus could heal her and her faith proved her right!
Application:
There is a tremendous difference between the crowds that are curious about Jesus and the few who reach out and touch Him! Today, many people are familiar with who He is, but nothing in their lives is changed by knowing that He is God's Son! Only faith in Christ will release God's healing power! Are you just curious about God, or do you reach out to Him in faith, knowing well that His mercy will bring healing power to your body, soul, and spirit? Jesus is still passing by ~ reach out to Him!
