"Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt. And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain. And Moses said unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Israel, and shall say unto them, The God of your fathers hath sent me unto you; and they shall say to me, What is his name? what shall I say unto them? And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you."
Exodus 3:10-14

I imagine God must get awfully tired of hearing His children making excuses! As we read through our Bible's, we find nothing but reluctant warrior's for the Almighty One, instead of Isaiah's "Here am I. Send me!" The more common reply for His children seems to be "Me, Lord? Not me! Send someone else!" Moses was like that here in this verse of Scripture. Confronted with God's call to service, he offered the human excuse, as we are still doing today.

As Moses, we find ourselves pleading inadequacy and unpreparedness. But God wanted Moses and had been preparing him for a task for many years. God has been preparing us for tasks in service to Him for many years also. As Moses wanted to hold back, are we still holding back?
God still equips those whom He will use. Through the Holy Spirit, operating in Word and Sacraments, God supplies divine power. God equips us and prepares us to do His will ~ telling the story of Christ!

Application:
Moses made excuses because he felt inadequate for the job God asked him to do. It was natural for him to feel that way ~ he was inadequate all by himself. But God wasn't asking Moses to work alone. He offered other resources to help ( Himself and Aaron and the ability to do miracles). Today, God offers us resources too. As we look beyond ourselves to the great resources available, we can allow God to use our unique contributions. God urges us to let our "light shine" ~ When His divine order comes your way, you can be sure that He has already supplied the wick, the oil, and the match!

May God Bless you today as you listen for God's call for service in your life.

Love in Christ,
Sandy
