| "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." Ephesians 2:10 Each day as I get in my car and head out to work down these country roads, I pass this old, old house with a rather large shed beside it. Yet it is hard to see the shed due to the collection of hundreds of old tires. Hundreds of tires! Just heaped up and cluttering the once beautiful landscaped yard. These tires catch my eye each day I drive by them. And thinking of them now, brought a message to my heart. All of these tires, or wheels in this yard seem to me to be useless! They are not connected to anything ~ not even so much as a wheelbarrel, yet alone a car. The person or persons living there are not putting these wheels to good use, as far as I can see. Now this person is a pretty good counterpart of the man, the ultimatum of whose idea of successful church work, it that of getting people to join the church. A good many churches, where this idea had been followed are, therefore, practically nothing more than a heap of wheels that are of no use because they have been put to none. "Saved to Serve" is a good motto, but it implies more than we are sometimes disposed to take into consideration. It means that we must train people as well as save them! It is not enough that we induce men and women to be good. We are to see to it that they are put in the way of becoming good for something! Good works follow ~ do not precede ~ salvation! Let us remake our Spiritual lives so that we can then do the good works which would be pleasing to God! Gathering a "heap" of anything is not what God has planned for His children. We are to be of good use for our Father! May God bless you with a wonderful day as you rumage through heaps in your yards, your neighbors, or anywhere else you can be useful to the Kingdom of God.
