January Devotions

                         PUTTING ON THE NEW!

"That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which
is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the
spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is
created in righteousness and true holiness."
Ephesians 4:22-24

I see the me I used to be
reflected in the glass,
and all the deeds of darkness done
into my mind trespass.

I see the me I long to be
appear before my eyes,
as all the Scriptures come to mind
to banish Satan's guise.

I see the me that I shall be
come softly into view,
with all the shame and sorrow gone
for in the glass is You!

Putting off comes before putting on, and we can put on the new only in
the measure of the depth and determination with which we have put off
the old. If our repentance does not go deep, if the grace of God does
not search and purify the very grounds of our life, we shall never enjoy
soundness and strength. It is essential to the freedom and peace of our
