In 1850 Acadia Lodge was opened at Pugwash working under a warrant from the Grand Lodge of England and designated by the number 888, this was later changed to 612.  The origins of this Lodge can be traced, through its charter members,  to McGowan & Cumberland Harmony Lodges. In 1869 Acadia entered the Grand Lodge of Nova Scotia and was allotted the number 13.
