Qualifications
and Experience Extended
periods of residence overseas—almost eighteen years altogether—have led to
educational opportunities and perspectives that bring both depth and breadth
to a traditional liberal education. We
have more than a decade of classroom experience, having taught English as a
second language and adult literacy classes in addition to Russian. Four years
as a technician in a multilingual government research library further honed
the linguistic, organizational, research, and writing skills necessary to a
good editor. … We have
thirty-five years' experience working with translations from Russian to
English and with manuscripts on a variety of topics written in English by
nonnative speakers, including monographs on Dostoevsky and Zinaida Hippius by
a professor of Russian literature; scholarly articles on government policy,
democratization, peacekeeping, security studies, and Russian studies for
foreign experts in their respective fields; manuscripts submitted by
clinicians and researchers from around the world to a German medical journal
published in English; a detective thriller by one of the foremost writers in
the genre in Russia today; and the memoirs of another prominent writer there. . Our
editorial experience is not limited to the writings of nonnative speakers of
English. For five years we contracted with a major publisher of educational
materials in the United States to provide copyediting, proofreading, and
fact-checking services in language arts. We have also helped to create a wide
range of homegrown productions, from workshop handouts to a 250-page doctoral
dissertation on vowel phenomena in southern Russian dialects. . Among
other services to our community, we contribute our professional talents to
local organizations. . Currently
we are editing the translated manuscript of a historical novel about Genghis Khan
by a respected Russian writer; the first volume was published in July 2006. … |
