| Welcome to Grego and VJ's Tour of Ireland | ||||||||
| Well here we are back from the anaugural trip to Ireland, the UK, and Singapore. Here is a bit an out line as to what we got upto, and a few tips for anyone that maybe doing a similar tip. DAY 1 We arrived safely at Heatrow after a marathon flight from Perth, not very jet lagged so we had to have a few beers with Dennis and Nessy in London, catching up with their stories of Africa, and their other travels. DAY 2 Spent having a bit of a look around, and sampling the wares of a few pubs, with an old mate of VJ's, Rob who has lived in the UK for the last ten years. Since the first pub we went to had such great beer and food, we had dinner there also. Yep we now know what at least one pub in Islington has to offer!!! DAY 3 Done the touristy thing around London on one of the Double Decker buses. Tip#1, very interesting, and recomended if you are only in London for a few days or even a year. DAY 4 Bid Nessy and Dennis farewell, and headed for Holyhead to catch the ferry to Dublin. Drove through Stratford upon Avon, and some great scenery in Nth Wales. Stayed in our first B&B in Holyhead. Tip#2, do this drive in two days if you want to stop and have a bit of a look. Day 5 Up early for breakfast, dodging the altercation between the niegbour, the Police, and our host!! Drove across the road to the ferry port and travelled accross the Irish Sea to Dun Laoghaire. Drove to our accomodation in central Dublin, then drove around looking for somewhere to park thr car. Had a few pints and a pizza in Temple Bar. Tip#3, don't take a car to Dublin!! Day 6 Again done the touristy thing and got another bus tour around Dublin, again very interesting and the best way to see the city. Highlight was the best Guiness I have ever tasted, at the Guiness brewery. The rest of the day was spent getting some washing done at Vanessa's favorite laundary!! We also went on the Literary Pub Crawl around Dublin, very funny at times Caught up with Deeds and Brett for a few before retiring early. Tip#4, again do the bus tour here also, as well as the Pub Crawl. Day 7 Slept in and caught up with Deeds and Brett for lunch, but decided to have a Guiness instead. Walked around Dublin, and found a great shop that sells old photo's of Ireland. Then tried to find a pub that served meals after 5pm, so we went had authentic Irish pasta. Looked around for some Irish music, no go. Central Dublin is not the place for finding good Irish hospitality. Day 8 Sunday. Left Dublin after paying our $120 parking bill!!! Drove through the Wicklow moutains and onto Avoca (where BallyK is filmed), and Arklow. Finally settled into a pub at Woodenbridge, where they had the best juke box, it played Shania Twain till the early hours, and because it was right under our room we could enjoy it till the early hours!! Day 9 Drove around the Avoca area, and took in some of the local scenery. Then booked into a B&B in Avoca town. Went and had a pint or two at Fitzgeralds, took a few pics then went accross the road and had a few more pints before having a lovely traditional Irish Greek meal. Day 10 Well we thought bugger this, we need some real Irish music, and food, so off we went all the way to Donegal. Got there late in the arvo, found a nice B&B, had a bit of a look around, then you guessed it, a couple of pints. Didn't feel like doing much so we had and early one. Day 11 Went for a good drive around the Donegal area, to Killybegs, the Glengesh Pass, and so on. Beautiful scenery, and a must visit. Put the washing in, and went out to a seafood resturant, then settled in for some local music. And you guessed it, the bloody musician got crook!!! Still no music, shit. Check out Day 12 onwards here!!! Here is the pics of the holiday And here is the link to our house page. And here's the New Zealand Trip NEW!!! |
