| Aloe vera | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Aloe Vera is a succulent that can be used expernally to soothe burns, insect bites and rashes. Its juice can be used as a laxitive, though prolonged use can lead to cramping and dehydration. Aloe vera should never be taken internally by pregnant or nursing mothers and should not be given internally to children. To grow successfully, allow soil to dry completely before rewatering. In the winter water minimally, as the plant goes semi-dormant. Light shade to full sun is generally recommended for Aloe plans. Magically, aloe is associated with the feminine, the moon and water. In some places it is hung above the door to protect the home from evil and for good luck. |

| Basil is more than just a tasty culinary herb. It can be used to calm an upset stomach and aid digestion as well as having mild sedatative effects. Topically basil is both a anti-bacterial and an anti-fungal. Cosmetically it can be used in an herbal rinse to add shine to hair and as an astringent to combat acne. Basil should not be used medicinally for pregnant women and there is some contradiction over its use in mothers that are nursing. Basil is an annual herb and loves warm weather, righ soil and LOTS of water. Harvest by pinching the leaves from the top of the plant. This will prolong the period before it goes to seed, once the plant produces flowers the flavor and use lessens considerably. Magically, basil can be used to attract money in love sachets and incense. It is associated with the masculine, Mars and fire. |

| Chickweed can be found in most yards and fields. Commonly though of as a weed, it is a wild edible plant that is high in vitamins. It grows year-round in most temperate environments and has been used by herbalists for its anti-inflammatory properties to treat urinary tract infections, and in respiratory illnesses to reduce swelling and reduce mucus build up. Externally, chickweed can be used to treat bruises, ans skin irritations. Chickweed is not recommended for internal use for women that are pregnant or nursing. Also, as chickweed pollen is a common source of allergies for many people, caution should be taken before use. |

| Chamomile has long been used as a mild sedative and relaxing tea. It is known to reduce menstural cramps and soothe an upset stomach. Chamomile has anti-inflamitory and cleansing properties and can be used for irritated skin, and wound cleansing. It can also be used as a facial toner and as a hair lightener. Chamomile come in many varieties, but the two most common are German and Roman Chamomile. The first is a tall, reseeding annual, and the second, a low to the ground perrenial. While the have different active ingredients, they both prefer sandy, well drained soil and full sun. They can be cultivated, but also grow wild in most areas of the world. Chamomile can be used in sleep, love and money spells. It is also useful in purification rituals and can be sprinkled around the home to banish and preven negative energy build up. Chamomile is an masculine herb, associated with the Sun and Water. |
