Page 10. Everest June 6, 2003 I didn't feel very good when I woke up this morning. I think it was the food from last night. I made myself get up and shower. Laurie and I went down for breakfast but I just watched Laurie eat.
We then went to UPS to mail notes and film home. The UPS man told me that he would be open at 9:30. It was about 10:00 and he wasn't there. A man told us that UPS wouldn't be open til 10:30. We were worried because Nar was picking us up at 11:00. We didn't know if we would have time for everything.
While waiting for UPS, Laurie and I looked at a few stores. We saw a Thanka, which is a Tibetan painting, that we both liked. Laurie bought it and I tried to find something similiar that I liked, but couldn't find one.
By the time Laurie bargained and paid for the painting, the UPS man arrived. We mailed our stuff, went into a few last minute stores and went to the hotel to meet Nar.
Nar came and got our taxi, packed our stuff and we were off to the airport. Nar gave us scarfs which is typical of Nepal. He said they were for good luck and safe traveling. After spending almost everyday with him, it was sad to say good-bye.
When you leave Nepal there is a departure tax. It is 1100 rupees. I thought I had it, but couldn't find it. Luckily there was a bank where they cashed some US money for me. After going through my money later I realized that I spent it and didn't lose it after all.
Laurie and I had to wait awhile for the airplane. The plane was late and there weren't any attendants to ask as to what was going on. Finally we were able to board. The plane was huge and I think every seat was taken. After being on such a small plane flying around Kathmandu it seemed so large. I think one side of one wing was larger than the small plane we were on.
The plane that we were taking to London was also late. We were lucky that it wasn't packed so we could spread out a little to sleep. There was an English man sitting next to me. He spent two weeks in Bangkok, met a girl and got married. He was going home without his wife because she couldn't get a VISA. So I guess this would be a long distance marriage. The flight was 12 hours. I fell asleep and when I woke up I saw Laurie sleeping on the floor in our feet space. So I spread out in the seats and was able to sleep.
