   Hi I'm Homeless
Newspaper
Halloween, like all holidays we celebrate in the United States, has a hodge-podge of origins. In Ireland, the ancient Celts saw November 1st as the first day of winter, a season that represented hardship. The earliest roots of Halloween was Samhain on October 31st, a day to ward off the evil of the coming winter. As Christianity began to influence the Celtic world, November 1st became All Saints day, a day to celebrate and remember the lives of the great Christians that have gone before. The night before was called "all hallow's eve", the term that eventually evolved into "Halloween".
As the Irish and British immigrated to the U.S., with them came their traditions around this holiday. Costumes have always been a part of the parades and feasts surrounding All Hallow's Eve. Superstitious people, afraid of ghosts, would wear masks to be unrecognizable. "Trick or Treating" can be traced back to the children of the poor asking for food during the parades in return for prayers.
In America, Halloween has lost it's religious significance and has become more about community and "neighborliness" than superstition. Kids roam the street in search of sugary treats and have fun dressing up. Classically, Christians have been uncomfortable with the occultic overtones of this holiday but have responded by families and congregations providing safe, fun activities for kids. However you feel about Halloween, let's all be mindful this year and not go looking for trouble. Keep an eye out for kids and help make it a good, safe night for them.  Chris  Whitler
Don't spoon-feed the homeless
Based on limited research, homelessness is a lifestyle choice. Therefore, any effort seeking a societal solution is misdirected because the focus is on a spoon-fed philosophy of what society will do for the homeless and not on what the homeless will do for themselves. One man in the recent march claimed he owns 100 acres, that his logging business burned and he was waiting for a million-dollar settlement. He must be homeless by choice. Because homeless people believe that society owes them something, the word "thank you" is not in their vocabulary. The homeless don't need lessons in self-empowerment. They already suffer from the delusion that they are in control. Self-empowerment can be achieved only within the law - by respecting property, by not leaving trash in their wake and not by claiming panhandling rights at traffic stops.

"Mr. Saltos", I think you shouldn't limit yourself when researching a group of people such as blacks, hispanics, women, religious, or even the poor and the homeless. This makes your attack on poor people look very biased and prejudiced. If I had to be homeless I would try to make my life as healthy as possible. I would seek God with a congragation at Church, and stay away from bad influences like J.L. SALTOS from Turlock. God says in his holy word that there will always be poor and homeless and sick and elderly and minority's and undesireables e.t.c.. God also says it is our reasonable service to try and help others whether we think it is justified or not. (God says do it). A large portion of the worlds people will never understand this principal because they won't recieve Gods free gift of eternal life. When you become born again the holy spirit comes inside of you and by following Jesus a person changes, if they are truly saved. You will not want to run others down or talk bad about them anymore because you can finally see why you were created. God has created you to worship, praise, and glorify him. God has created you to be a servant for others, just like Jesus Christ.

"Mr. Saltos", on behalf of all the homeless around the world, we forgive you for your narrow mindedness and your limited research about the homeless and poverty stricken. "Mr. Saltos", it's never too late to recieve Jesus Christ as your personal savior and live eternally in heaven with God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. Along with all the other saved people. The problem isn't everyone else, the problem is me. We thank you for your concern and God bless you.
