| In Stanislause County there aren't very many jobs. Where do we go from here? I went to the Brenden Theater to apply for a job. Supposedly they ran out of applications. So I went back numorous times. One time I left a resume but they never called me. There were only hispanic and black people working there. There were no white people working there at all. I've gotten the same results at other places. Such as, Del-Monte Foods in Modesto Ca., last yr., when I applied. They called me three times, but when I called back, they said they made a mistake and got the wrong seniority number. I finally gave up hope for any chance of employment there. Del-Monte also made me step out of line to let Hispanic people go before me. The man that told me to step out of line was the man doing the interviewing at the Employment Office. He worked at the Employment Office. He was Hispanic also. Several yrs. ago, at the Employment Office in Modesto, I signed up for a work program that was supposed to help me get new training and a new career. I was excited about this and was doing fine untill a certain Hispanic lady at the Employment Office met me for a final interview, qualifying me for the program. She told me that I was disqualified because of several different reasons. I left discouraged. When I came back to the Employment office two wks. later, another worker told me that I wasn't disqualified and he didn't know why the other worker told me different. |
| Now I've got something to tell you. My name is James Flaherty. I am German and Irish, and I am proud of it. I am not prejudice and I am a Christian. This Country was never the Mexican peoples, or the Indian peoples, or the White peoples. This Country was founded on God and it was created by God. God owns everything. I am not afraid of any race, creed, or color. Including colors people wear. Your Gangs don't frighten me and I've got close friends that are Mexican. Big deal. They are people too. Don't you realize that if you want to succeed, you have to forgive the ones that mistreated you, and treat them better. This is your golden opportunity to set an example and to make a statement of integrity. Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. The Bible says, if you have the power in your hands to do good and you don't , it is considered sin. |
