Generally our music is keyboard-based,
adding guitars, bass and lyrics afterwards.. but that's not always
the case. Sometimes Paul or Andy will send us a song already developed, or
Jennifer or Rob will have some already written vocals, and we add to those.
All keyboards are played by hand; every note you hear is what we play ourselves.
We start all keyboards in MIDI format then convert those to WAV tracks, then
add effects and panning as needed. Drums are MIDI-based as well.
Rob writes the bulk of the lyrics, but Jennifer adds her touch to many songs.
The feel of the song dictates the theme of the lyrics. Rob loves writing vocal
melodies and counter-melodies that Jenn will have fun singing, and he especially
loves strong choruses and vocal layering/panning. Together, Rob and Jenn will
work out all the harmonies. Songs take anywhere from a few hours to a few
weeks to complete. Life and family obligations keep us all busy, so we aren't
always able to finish songs as quickly as we have in the past, but we still
take the time to create new music and work on collaborations when we can.
