Winter Math Concepts

Number Sense: Comparing numbers one to one-hundred and identifying odd and even numbers

Skip Counting: Practice counting by ones, fives, tens, and twenty-fives. This will reinforce counting money.

Money: Practice counting coins to one dollar. Use various coins, but always start with the highest valued coin.

Time: First, practice telling time to the hour and half hour. Next, practice to the quarter hour. Then practice telling time to five minute intervals.

Computation: Help your child memorize addition and subtraction to twelve. This will help your student pass the math timed tests weekly. Fact family or triangle flashcards are often helpful. When your child has memorized the facts, try problems with missing addends.

Addition Example:

3 + 4 = ___

4 + 3 = ___

3 + ___ = 7

4 + ___ = 7

Subtraction Example:

7 - 4 = ___

7 - 3 = ___

7 - ___ = 3

7 - ___ = 4
