Chapter 9- Dealing with Guilt

I sat down beside him. And began to recount the events that had happened before. I told him of Kuroi, of her seduction of him and how he was controlled to beat me up. As I soon as I relayed what he had done, I saw the birth of guilt and worse self-hatred in his face. He hung his head and muttered under clenched teeth, “I was supposed to be the one to protect you and now look at what I’ve done!” He balled his fists. I took his hands and laid mine on them, “It wasn’t your fault, Yusuke, he could’ve easily control anyone of you even you, Hiei.” I explained. “Still, it was I who…”he started bitterly. “No Yusuke, it wasn’t your fault. Don’t blame yourself.” Kurama said gently. “And besides, I said brightly, you broke her spell over you in the end.” “I did?” Yusuke asked. Uhuh! I nodded my ponytail bobbing up and down. When she thought beating me up wasn’t enough, she ordered you to rape me—I saw Yusuke cringe in self-disgust. Did I—he asked, his voice broken. “No you didn’t! You said you wouldn’t do it! And then she got really mad and blasted you. That’s when I really *really* got pissed so I released my fire wind.” I finished. “Wow! Your fire wind was that what you fed Kowaru last night?” Kuwabara asked. “Well actually yeah”, I answered sheepishly. “But why was she after you?” Yusuke asked hesitantly. “Because I was the one who killed her faithful slave. She wanted revenge.” I answered him. “And you can bet she’ll be back.” Hiei scoffed. “Yeah, she will be. She doesn’t strike me as the type to give up easily. Okay, as of now you cannot be anywhere alone. I know you are * very* capable of taking care of yourself but still----”Kurama said, worry evident in his voice. “All right.” I agreed. The others nodded in agreement. For now, I have to go to the Rei kai and ask Koenma if he has anything that can make us immune to her spell. All of you should rest. Especially you Botan. You had a rough night. Kurama said with rueful smile. Arigato kurama-san, I will. And with that, Kurama was off to go to Rei kai.

I looked around the room and saw all of them wearing sad and serious faces. But Yusuke looked like he’d been hit by a truck. This room definitely needed some major cheering up. “Oi! Why so sad and gloomy?” I said cheerfully, Why don’t we all grab a bite of ice cream? I gave them one of my famous smiles. Kuwabara got up and said. “I , Kuwabara Kazuma never turn down ice cream!” he laughed merrily. “Might as well.” Hiei grunted and got up. Ice cream didn’t sound bad to him, especially vanilla. “How could you think of ice cream at a time like this!” Yusuke bursted out. “And you, how could you stand to be so damn cheerful after I just beat you up and nearly raped you!” I sighed as I motioned the others to go ahead. “Come on shrimp, race you to the ice cream parlor! Kuwabara said. “Hn, baka get ready to lose!” Hiei said. And with that they raced off. Yusuke… I began. He was hunched over the couch. Please don’t blame yourself it isn’t your fault. “You better cat ch up with the others I may go crazy again and this time you might not be able to stop me.” he cried. I sat in front of him and took his hands. He pulled away.

“You better go.” Yusuke said. Refusing to look at my face. “I am not going anywhere without you.” I said firmly. I cupped his face in my hands. “Stop this!” “ But what if it happens again. I don’t think I would be able to live with myself.” he whispered. “I cannot say that it can’t happen again, Yusuke, but I’ll promise you this--” I paused. Yeah? He raised his eyes. “You would always have my trust in you.” At last he smiled at me, I see the clouds of guilt that had shadowed his eyes earlier slowly melt away. “Come on, he stood up and took my hand, I’m in the mood for some chocolate ice cream!” We laughed as we ran to follow Hiei and Kuwabara.
