Soul Harvest
Chapter Four:

-December 15th-

Dear Kasaan,
Thank you for consisting me to come to this college. I really appreciate it. But since the hard tests are coming up, I won’t be able to make it the 20th. I promise I will try to make it the 22nd or the 23rd. If I make it on Christmas Eve, I will be there early. I will buy everybody’s presents here. Hikari and I are going Christmas shopping today for everybody. Hikari is my friend in this school. My only friend. We met realizing that we were roommates. She is fun to hang out with but I do not like her that way. She just shows me around. She also came from Japan. I don’t know what place but she told me all about it last night.
I have had in mind what I am gonna get you for Christmas. I guarantee that you are going to like it. As for me, I don’t care what presents you give me. I just want to be with my family!

                                Lots of Love,
                                Shuichi

I wrote this letter to Kasaan and mailed it hopping it will get there some good timing. Hikari drove us to the mall. The mall was rather large and crowded.

“First stop. The jewelry store!” She dragged me cheerfully into the store and looked through the glass-covered countertops. “Whoa! Look at this one!” Hikari’s eyes sparkled as she looked at a golden diamond ring. Soon, I knew she would be drifting off into her own little world now.

“I want my future husband to give me and engagement ring with diamonds and rubies, with the stones romantically shaped like hearts and roses and flowers and………..ah……….how beautiful that will be!” She drifted across the store in her little world. I blushed in embarrassment but I was too busy picking out the ring I would buy for Kasaan.
“I’ll take that one.” I pointed at a ruby ring. The ruby was shaped like a rose and glistened within the light of the light bulbs above me. I paid for the ring and the clerk handed it to me in a gift box. I looked at the ring for the rest of the night excited to give it to her.

-December 16th-

The tests were given today and I have never been so nervous. If I failed this test, I would start the task all over again. The first task usually took a week to cover. I’ve worked to hard to fail, I finally realized. Hikari and I both looked at each other nervously as the test papers were being handed out.

“YahooOOOo !!” Hikari laughed victoriously as she showed me her paper. 85 percent. I smiled at her. I finally got my paper handed back. 105 percent. Ah. What a relief! Hikari and I are ready to go on to the next task!

“Shuichi! You have some mail.” Hikari tossed me two envelopes. One from Tami and one from Kasaan. I quickly ripped the one from Kasaan first. It read:

Shuichi,
I am glad you are enjoying yourself in America. If you get this letter on the 16th it would be a miracle. The weather here is terrible! Ice storm warnings have been everywhere on the weather channels. I think you should wait before you come home to us. I don’t care if it’s after Christmas. There is no sense in you flying in that weather! I checked the airports and they say that most of the flights have been canceled. There has been a plane crash in the ocean and every passenger has died. One of those passengers could have been you! I was so afraid that was you. But now I know cause I received your letter not too long ago. I am so happy you are alive! Just stay in touch and I will think of something.

                        I Love You,
                                Kasaan

I felt tears in my eyes. Not looking at Tami’s letter, I ducked into my covers and I tried to find a way to come home for Christmas.
