Soul Harvest Chapter Three:

-December 10th-

I should probably start out with how it feels to be going so far away from my home by myself. I don’t know. I can’t really explain it. The heads popping out from the seats in front of me seem to comfort my homesickness.

When my family and I arrived at the airport, they wished me luck as I began to board the plane. I sat is a seat and looked out the window and watched the hard working men deliver the passengers’ luggage. I heard somebody call my name back at the station. It was Tami! She had an envelope for me but the plane took off before I could respond to her.

I felt sorry for Tami. I’ve decided to buy her a Christmas present in America and send it to her to cheer her up. I know what she likes.

As I relaxed on the plane, I saw some faces that I have seen in Tokyo since I was little. I do not know anybody on this plane but they all looked familiar. Seeing familiar faces around me seemed to make me feel better.

It seemed like 14 centuries whenever the plane finally landed in Maine. I looked out the window and saw American citizens waving to their friends and family. I felt alone and lost, which I was. Nobody was here to greet me. How I wished that Kasaan and everybody else was by my side as I walked off the plane and picked up my suitcase.

The chattering of people around me constantly rang in my head until I finally walked in the Medical College Building. The building was very big and tall. Whenever I first saw it, my guess was 18 stories high. But I discovered it was only 10 stories high when I walked in. The line of college students stretched very long. I thought I would never get to the front of it, but I did. I handed the woman in front my high schools skip sheet and she seemed pleased at me.

“You must be one smart student, Mr.…Shuichi Minamino.” She had to look on my sheet to discover my name. She gave me a smile and gave me the room number I was staying at. Room number 52. Now I noticed why this building was so big. You can also rent rooms to spend the night in over night. Although an inn is right across the street.

I walked down the hallways and seemed a little rashy at the smell of burning leaves. I don’t know where the smell was coming from but something inside was telling me “Get used to it.”

I entered my room and found a girl in my room reading a book on the 2nd bed.
“Uh….excuse me…I must have the wrong room.” I checked the number on the door again.
“Huh?” I was surprised that I had the right room.

“Oh hi there! You must be my roommate!”

“Roommate?”

The girl jumped off the bed and smiled at me. Her perky attitude reminded me of Botan but there was seriousness in her eye. “I’m Hikari! And you?” she held out her hand. I shook her hand and smiled. “Shuichi. Shuichi Minamino.” I answered her.

“Welcome to room 52, Shuichi! Since this is the 3rd year of me coming here. I will show you what’s what.” She blinked and threw her book on her bed. I felt a bit unusual sharing the room with a girl but I just wanted to make the best of it.

Hikari showed me around the college before the opening assemblies began. She showed me where our classrooms were and introduced me to the teachers. I have a feeling I am gonna miss home a lot.

-December 14th-

For the past few days, we have been going through some experiments and tests about medical abilities. I am more interested in being a doctor but I still miss my family and friends.

“Hey Shuichi! Who are ya callin’?” Hikari slapped me on the back on night as I tried to call Tami.

“One of my friends back home.” I continued to dial the number.

“Girlfriend?” Hikari elbowed me. I blushed but quickly answered.

“N-No! What gave you that idea?” I finally got a holt of Tami. She seemed happy to hear from me and asked me about the college. I said that I am interested but wished I was back home. She talked to Kasaan and they both say that I should come back on the 20th. I agreed and finally hung up.

I felt better the rest of the day since I talked to Tami. Today, Hikari and I studied in the library and we began to talk.

“So you DO want to be a doctor?” I asked as I flipped through the pages of a medical book. Hikari closed her book.
“Sort of. I want to be a nurse. But I also do love to write. I’m just intrested in medical stuff. How about you?”
I looked down and pretended to read.
“I want to be a doctor and save people’s lives. That is mainly what I am known for in Tokyo. The guy who takes care of people.” I could see Hikari smiling at me in my parethial vision.

That night, me and Hikari talked about our home towns. She seems to be a good friend to talk to. But I don’t like her in that way. No way.
