Shiori shook her head and sighed softly as she hung the damp, pristine bed sheets on the washing line. Shuuichi, her own son, never confided his problems with her as soon as he was grown up.

::He has his own life now, Shiori. He can't be always the little boy who always relied on you to dress his wounds when he fell on pavements.:: Shiori's thought was broken off when she heard some knocks on the door.

"Coming!" She said aloud, hoping the person at the door would hear.

"Oh my, Shuuichi. Fancy you coming home before I even cook your lunch!" Shiori giggled lightly as Kurama gave her a warm hug.

"Hope you weren't lonely in the house this morning, 'kaasan." Kurama smiled and offered to help with the rest of the laundry hanging as Shiori entered the kitchen to ready lunch.

Kurama cringed as he felt a disturbing ki coming his way. He ran to the kitchen and grabbed Shiori at the waist, jumping out of the kitchen window into the open road. Shiori was puzzled. "Shuuichi...what are you doing?"

"Run," Kurama commanded gently "as fast as you can, 'kaasan. Go to Genkai-'baasan's temple. Look for a girl named Botan." With a light push on her shoulder, he sprinted back into the house and ran out the front door, baiting the troubled, vicious ki he felt with his own.

The street was not very crowded, but there were people. Kurama did not want to harm them. "Funny feelings I get for these ningens now that I'm one of them." Kurama wondered amusedly as he grabbed a fallen Sakura blossom on the way.

"You can't escape now," a husky voice sounded in Kurama's head as Yuusuke gave chase as soon as he sighted Kurama dash out of the house.

Kuwabara shivered when his mind blacked out for a second. He never felt like this before. It was cold...frighteningly ice cold and lonely. Yes. Lonely. Kuwabara felt as if a part of his soul was torn from him as he screamed out. No voice came out. He ran from wherever he was, to where his fear wanted him away from. He had to find out what had happened.

"You're a tough one to handle, Youko Kurama," Yuusuke noted as he threatened Kurama with his flaring Reiki. They were in a public park, and the people left hastily, seeing that there might be a fight ensuing. Kurama did the exact opposite. He hid his Youki and decided that to ambush Yuusuke would be easier than to fight him face to face. He created illusions with his plants and planted counterparts of himself around Yuusuke. "Guess who's the real one, Yuusuke," all of them said at once as the real Kurama clambered around some trees and summoned the plants to grow at an incredible speed, defying nature, bent on transforming the place to his advantage.

Yuusuke grinned, his brown eyes reflecting his Toushin fighting nature, hungering for blood, especially human blood. In only a few minutes, Kurama's counterparts were all defeated and vanished into the thin air like wisps of smoke from an extinguished match.

***

Kuwabara had to arrive at this time.

Kurama quickly jumped from his hiding place and crouched into battle position beside Kuwabara.

"Attack with your Reiken, Kuwabara-kun. Go round that tree and I'll distract him. Aim for his head, I'll cover you." Kurama planned instantly as Kuwabara immediately got to action. Kurama threw the sakura blossom at Yuusuke, and it transformed into a large, sticky pink mess of a net. Yuusuke growled and started to tear the net up with his bare hands.

Kuwabara lurched forward in his Reiken, but only succeeded in wounding Yuusuke superficially...
