The Hills simply began as a MySpace profile in early 2007. The city of Chicago has multiple websites that cater to its nightlife and lifestyle industry, so why not have one for the suburbs? Furthermore, why not one for the H.H.P.H.?
The MySpace profile gained a quick appreciation, and the need for a separate, more detailed website became apparent. And thus, this website was born.
On this website, visitors can find information about bars, restaurants, salons, and other "lifestyle" businesses of Hickory Hills and Palos Hills. Each business has its own individual page that provides general information. In addition, any specials, sales, or events that these businesses host will be found in the website's "News & Events" section.
The goal of the website is to inform residents of activities and specials. Residents can also voice their opinion and experiences by submitting reviews of businesses. Lastly, it gives the opportunity for residents to connect by a community messageboard.
Each month, the website is updated with new stories and specials. A corresponding newsletter is sent to subscribers during the new month's first week (anyone may subscribe on the main page, and/or the "News & Events" page).
Everything is still in its developmental stages and will slowly progress over the year. It is operated by one person: Lauren (me), a Hickory Hills resident.
I would love to work with others who would like to contribute to the site. I am looking for photographers, writers, and even promoters from Hickory and Palos Hills who would like to be part of The Hills without monetary compensation (I'm doing this for free too!).
Eventually, I would like to turn The Hills into a published work; perhaps a monthly newspaper-style magazine that highlights events and people. Until then, be sure to spread the word about this website and check back regularly for updates!
