Dialogue Three
Mr. Tanaka: Suzuki-san, kono hen ni den'wa ga arimasu ka?
Mr. Suzuki: Asoko ni arimasu yo.
Mr. Tanaka: Jaa, chotto shitsurei. Sugu kimasu.

Mr. Tanaka: Omachidoo sama.
Mr. Suzuki:   Doo itashimashite. Ikimashoo ka?
Mr. Tanaka: Ee. A, soko ni Yamada-san ga imasu yo. Tobimashoo ka...                                 Yamada-san!
Mr. Yamada: A, kon'nichi wa!
Mr. Suzuki:   Kon'nichi wa Yamada-san, kinoo Shin'juku Eki ni imashita ne?
Mr. Yamada: Ee, eiga e ikimashita. Suzuki-san wa?
Mr. Suzuki: Chotto hon'ya to gin'koo e ikimashita. Yamada-san, kyoo ohima                          ga arimasu ka?
Mr. Yamada: Ee, arimasu kedo?
Mr. Suzuki: Ima Tanaka-san ga uchi e kimasu. Issho ni kimasen ka?
Mr. Yamada: Ee, arigatoo. Ojama shimasu.
You're proud of yourself because you actually remembered some words, and had look up less of them. Happily, you translate...
Mr. Tanaka: Mr. Suzuki, is there a telephone in this vacinity?
Mr. Suzuki:   There is one over there, you see?
Mr. Tanaka: Well, excuse me for a moment. I'll be back soon.

Mr. Tanaka: Sorry to have kept you waiting.
Mr. Suzuki: Don't mention it. Shall we go now?
Mr. Tanaka: Yes. Oh, there is Mr. Yamada. Shall we call him? Mr. Yamada!
Mr. Yamada: Oh, hello.
Mr. Suzuki: Hi. You were at the Shin'juku Station yesterday, weren't you?
Mr. Yamada: Yes, I went to a movie. How about you, Mr. Suzuki?
Mr. Suzuki:   I went to a bookstore and bank. Do you have some free time                              today, Mr. Yamada?
Mr. Yamada: Yes I do. Why do you ask?
Mr. Suzuki:   Mr. Tanaka is coming to my house now. Won't you come with                          us?
Mr. Yamada: Yes, thank you, I will come.
As you get up to get a napkin (having spilled Beri-no-Soda all over the table), you see Miss Koyama outside, walking towards the cafeteria with someone. You listen tentatively.
Dialogue Four
Mr. Smith:        Are wa nan desu ka?
Miss Koyama:   Toshokan desu.
Mr. Smith:        Kirei desu nee! Sore wa?
Miss Koyama:   Sore desu ka? Shokudoo desu. Ocha o nomimashoo ka?
Mr. Smith:         Ee, nodo ga kawakimashita ne.
Prof. Nakamura: Koyama-san!
Miss Koyama:    A, Nakamura-sen'sei! Tomodachi o shookai shimasu. Sumisu-                             san desu. Kochira wa Nakamura-sen'sei desu.
Prof. Nakamura: Hajimemashite.
Mr. Smith:        Doozo Yoroshiku.
Prof. Nakamura: Anata mo koko no gakusei desu ka?
Mr. Smith:        Iie, soo ja arimasen. Meriiran'do Daigaku no daigakuin no                                     gakusei desu.
Miss Koyama:   Sen'sei, watashitachi wa sorosoro shitsurei shimasu.
Prof. Nakamura: Soo desu ka? Mata yukkuri irasshai.
Mr. Smith:        Hai, arigatoo gozaimasu.
Grabbing a handful of napkins, and cleaning up your mess, you translate the dialogue mostly in your head...
Mr. Smith:        What's that over there?
Miss Koyama:    That is the library.
Mr. Smith:         It's pretty! How about that one?
Miss Koyama:   That one? It's the cafeteria. Shall we have some tea?
Mr. Smith:         Yes. We're thirsty, aren't we?
Prof. Nakamura: Miss Koyama.
Miss Koyama:    Oh, Prof. Nakamura. I will introduce my friend. This is Mr. Smith.                            This is Prof. Nakamura.
Prof. Nakamura: It's nice to meet you.
Mr. Smith:        Likewise.
Prof. Nakamura: Are you a student of this school (university) too?
Mr. Smith:        No, I am not. I am a graduate student at the University of Maryland.
Miss Koyama:    Professor, we'd better be leaving now.
Prof. Nakamura: Is that so? Come again and spend a leisurely time.
Mr. Smith:          Yes, I will, thank you.
You've finished drinking, but you're hungry. LEAVE THE CAFETERIA or GET FOOD.
