BACK Kara stopped in the middle of the sidewalk abruptly enough that I nearly pulled her arm out of socket as I continued walking.  Turning back, I saw her face scrunched up in confusion.

Lost?

Please say no because I have no clue where we are.  I dont know which direction Im facing or where my hotel is from this spot.  I probably couldnt take us back to the place we just ate at if I wanted to.

I didnt do so well in geography.

Norway is a part of Sweden or whatever.

Shaking her head almost as if ridding her mind of a haze, she looked around us.

No, I know where we are.

And she started walking again.  Uh okay.  What the hell just happened?

Im confused.  Not lost.

Isnt that the same thing?

Why?

Her free hand passed through her hair, a strand getting caught in her fingers in the process. Shaking it off to let it float to the ground, she avoided my face yet acting nonchalant.

Because of you.

My turn to stop in the middle of the sidewalk, my voice squeaking.

Me?!

I quickly moved out of the way before an older lady nearly ran into me, which would have made her the second woman for me to throw to the ground today.

Silently nodding, Kara gestured towards the door of the building Id so conveniently stopped in front of.  In neon blue letters the name of the store lit up despite it being the middle of the day.  Poly Esters?

I started laughing and jumped back again, dropping her hand in the process.

Hell no!  No way not getting me into any

No!

She continued with the hysterical laughter that started just before my outburst, bending over slightly with her hand on her stomach.

They ha have good clothes.

Then why are they named after really bad material?

Kara continued to giggle, trying to catch her breath.

God shes beautiful when shes flushed and red like that.

I know other things that would get her to look like that

To be honest, I dont think Ive ever seen any polyester in there

She looked at the incredulous expression on my face.

Plus, what are you afraid of?  That youll look like a horrible fashion accident?

Hey!

Whats wrong with what Im wearing?

I dont think theres anything wrong with your clothes, but obviously Kevin thinks there is.

Point taken.

And plus, if you dont like anything, we can go somewhere else.  Walking through the door doesnt mean you have to buy anything.  If youre still scared of the place, well leave.

Im not afraid of it.

I sound like a pouty little five-year-old.

Giggling at me, which I rightly deserved for that, she gestured towards the door again.

Then go in.

I will!

What the hell were we talking about before?

Me upsetting her, I think.

Pulling the door opened, I waited for her to walk through, laughing when she stared at me.

Ill follow you!  Promise!

Skeptical and with a smirk plastered on her face, she slipped a finger through one of my belt loops, pulling me in behind her.

Over to the left a little

Im sick, I know.  And suddenly very playful.

When the door shut behind me, before even bothering to check out the store, I rushed up behind her, wrapped both my arms around her waist, and lifted her a few inches off the ground, eliciting a surprised squeal that turned into peals of that laughter that drives me crazy.

What are you doing?!

I really dont know.

Hugging her to me tightly before placing her back on her feet, I grinned and shrugged when she turned around.

Youre insane.

Yeah.

Kara!  Its my favorite customer!

More guys that know her?!

A boy with green streaks in his hair came over to us while I managed to get my first good look at the place.  It didnt seem so bad.  Some weird stuff.  Mostly not weird stuff.  I can deal with this.

Hey!  Anything new in?

New boy wrapped an arm around her shoulders and led her away.

Hey!

Seems Kara was thinking similar thoughts.  She shrugged out of his hold, making him stop.

Not here by myself today.  This is Nick.  Nick this is Morgan.

Morgan?  The boy has a girls name?

Oh hey man, sorry.  Normally Kar comes in by herself.  Most of her guys dont like shopping with her, but I dont understand why.  Shes normally in and out in twenty minutes.

Smiling, Kara rolled her neck as if trying to get a kink out of it as she replied.

Thats why.  Most of my guys like to shop for some reason.  Theyd want to spend hours in here and I wouldnt go for that.

She doesnt like shopping?

Yeah, you cant spend hours in here, but you can spend days at Best Buy and Barnes & Noble.

But those arent clothes!  You can only do so much with clothes.  Cds, videogames, movies, books  Dude, I can spend hours with just one of those, but combine em in one place

And were going to have to drag you out.

Morgan smirked at her, not in an I-want-you way, so it wasnt so bad.  Dont think I have to worry about this guy being a threat or anything.

Anyway Nick needs some clothes.  Probably new ones.  Not too sure what hes supposed to be getting, and I dont think he is either.  So

He nodded, gesturing for us to follow him to a stairway that led to the second store of the relatively large shop.  Following him and Kara, I wrapped my hands around her neck, using my thumbs to carefully message whatever had been bothering her.  I felt her sigh.

You okay?

Mm hmm.

We began to ascend the stairs, I making sure I didnt lose my grip on her neck while also not choking her.

Im gonna fall asleep standing up now, you know?

Grinning, I dropped my hands from her neck, wrapped my arms around her shoulders instead, and held her against me as we reached the upstairs landing.

You know we can forget about this and go back to my hotel so I can give you a full one.

A considering look joined with a half grin met my gaze as she leaned her head against my shoulder to look up at me.

Tempting.  Very tempting.  Except I dont want to get you in trouble.  So clothes first, and if we have time after, Ill take you up on that offer.
