Bibron's Gecko
Pachydactylus bibronii
~Range) Africa
~Description) Average size is 5-6 in, they have what is described as a "beaded" appearance. They are said to have delicate skin that can tear when handled, however, in my experience the skin of this gecko is not as delicate as it is made out to be. Be sure to handle this gecko carefully anyways because they tend to bite and are quite fast. Rough handling of any gecko is likely to tear skin so exercise caution when handling.
~Care) Bibron's geckos are relatively easy to care for. A ten gallon aquarium is large enough to house one adult. They should be kept relatively dry with a small water dish, using sand as a substrate for the bottom of the cage. They like to hide so be sure to provide several hiding places.
~Temperature) An ideal daytime temperature for this gecko is between 75-85 F. A basking hot spot should reach a temperature between 90-95 F. To achieve these temperatures is is recommended to use a dome light fixture with basking bulb. It is also recommended to use a full spectrum UVA UVB light that is on all day. I do not recommend using a heat rock with this species.
~Feeding) These geckos eat a variety of insects consisting mainly of crickets, mealworms, and waxworms. It is always recommended to use a
vitamin/mineral supplement powder to dust the feeder insects before offering them to your lizard as many farm raised insects are lacking needed nutrients.
