| Welcome to Hero and Villain, my blogpage about random crap that I feel like getting off my chest. 06.Sep.2007 - Number Five Hey. Just a quick one...I've put a hidden link on this page and if you can find it, it will take you to a page where it gives line-by-line discription of the lyrics to 'She Knows Too Much' and 'Official State'. 05.Sep.2007 - Number Four Well hello New York! It's been a while! I have no excuse! I've uploaded a couple of songs onto my myspace page and the lyrics are on there too, so check them out. I've had a few messages and I've read some comments regarding my lyrics and their meanings. I know some artists/bands may just choose any old lyrics because they can, but I genuinely like to have meaning in my songs. I'll wait a little longer before releasing the meanings, because I love to hear peoples renditions. Let's just say for now, that I like to read books on Johnny Cash and other inspirators, to see the background behind their music. (That may help for some of the lyrics to 'Official State') On a completely different note, namely that of Captured, I was thinking back to about May last year, about two weeks before the split. Me and Alex was coming up with some amazing ideas for music, artwork and even merchandise. We discussed how exciting it felt to be planning and writing the music that people would be listening to within the following six to twelve months. But just like that, it was over. No real warning or anything. I think the reason I'm having so much trouble letting go of it, is because I wasn't/am not ready for Captured to end. Listening to: Goldfinger - Superman Mood: Yes 25.Aug.2007 - Number Three I have some photos as promised and you can view them here. It amazes me how The Clash were able to create such an atmosphere in their music. I've visited London quite a few times and I always get that same feeling, and it always reminds me of The Clash. I think given the chance, the new Captured music would have had real atmosphere, I know we all felt it, but sustaining it into your music is very hard. The reason I'm stuck on Captured is because I wasn't ready for it to end. If I was the one who left or ended it, I could have naturally moved on, but as it is I'm searching for that ending, the closure. I have a plan, a good action plan, but getting that rolling is near impossible, well that's how it feels. I was reading how Amy Winehouse had to cancel her touring because she was 'exausted', but touring is tiring, surely she knew that before singing that mega-money deal? I don't think some people know what that have and how lucky they are. Listening to: Stereophonics - Getaway Mood: Disappointed 22.Aug.2007 - Number Two It's just gone midnight, I'm tired but can't sleep, thoughtful yet thoughtless, hopeful but hopeless. I listed all of the songs that I have written since the start, and it adds upto 73. 36 from Captured, 13 from From The Most, 12 from Arizona Down and a bunch of acoustic songs. I feel so fortunate to have been able to express so freely how I felt, but since the break up, that expression has dissolved. Hence this blog page. I recently found photos from Lumley Hall, when Captured and FTM used to practise. We looked ridiculous. But it was awesome. I also saw the music video for 'Early Years' that never got released. Although the history of Captured sounds very straight forward, there's so much more that can't really be explained in words, you kind of had to be there. There was two Mike's, this is why we gave them nicknames - Little Mike (kind of obvious really) and Riff (most excellent on guitar). Little Mike played bass and Riff was our trusty camera man/beer companion. Alex, (or 8Ball as he was later known) was on drums, Steve was on guitar and yours truly was on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. That's pretty much it, except within the space of 5 months I lost all of them as friends. August 2005, I set Riff up with some girl who he ends up moving in with 2 weeks into their relationship and starting a family. I haven't heard from him since, and considering we went all through school and college together, not to mention major family problems, it kind of bites. (Check out the song 'Shotgun Wedding' by Arizona Down) December 2005, Steve decided's he's had enough. January 2006, Little Mike decides that his girlfriend of 2 months comes first and doesn't want anything further to do with music. Luckily, I still had 8ball as a buddy. But he was soon to leave in May 2006. Whether it be girlfriend influence, lack of motivation or just not being able to stand being in a band with me any longer, I do not know, even to this day. Listening to: Beach Boys - Help Me, Rhonda Mood: Tired 19.Aug.2007 - Number One Where do I begin? So much has gone on over the past 18 months. Captured was such a big part of my life. It was everything I lived for. The breakup was a real shock, although I should have seen it coming. Here we are, over a year since the final discussion and I have a numb feeling inside. What's been on my mind tonight? I really miss all the band meetings at Alex's house. When he lived with his mom, we would go round to his house and just chill. We'd have things we planned to sort out, but it was always fun. Someone (normally me or Alex) would have a song from a cd that we owned, that we really wanted the other person to hear. It was usually something like Johnny Cash or Elvis, and the other person would always love it! We'd crash out in his room, one on the bed, one on the floor, one on a chair and one on top of the wardrobe or something and just talk all night, about what logo to use or what songs we'd love to cover. It always included laughing, drinking a beer or two, arguing, making up and listening to our favourite bands. His mom would always want to order us pizza or chinese and it would rock. AFI will always remind me of that type of bedroom band meeting. The sound of their music is so haunting, I love it. If I can find some photos I'll stick them up on the next blog. Listening to: AFI - 'Missing Frame' and '37mm' Mood: Reflective |
