HER NAME IS DEATH "Loathsome Christ" (Muchausen Sound)
This is a one track release in a nice DVD case from instrumental drone doom four piece Her Name Is Death. Full marks to the band for packaging, the spooky photo on the front has been seen in thousands of places before, but it is certainly effective, and of course the DVD case is great.
Her Name Is Death bring forth a dense but very 'alive' form of drone doom, a disjointed almost-production, with pounding drums keeping a solid beat throughout. Although the music isn't as slow as HALO or sunn o))) this doesn't make it any less heavy with the rudimentary production really reverberating the 'droneness' of the guitars, making the track very trance like.
The track is roughly 20 minutes long, and is akin to the building of an arcane and twisted tower - the first few minutes the foundations are laid, with the drones reverberating and the drums starting the rhythm, the tower is slowly and steadily being built, set to be a disgusting monolith to blot out the sun. Then the halfway mark is reached and the building of the tower has stopped for a short while, the riff halting time with some heavy drones with the drums disappearing then reappearing for the building to commence again....finally the tower is complete standing in all it's glory for a mere second, only to be destroyed in a torrent of noise and drones, the walls of the tower crashing down around your ears...or something like that.
This is a cool release, fans of bands like HALO, Sunn o))), Pelican, Earth and Godflesh could do worse than to get this.

HER NAME IS DEATH
One 20-minute track of instrumental droning sludge is what HER NAME IS DEATH offers on this wicked demo. As with BIG YELLOW MAMA, HNID is another band featuring the talents of Eric Crowe, who's thankfully continuing his musical endeavors despite a change in locale. This is some slow, heinously down-tuned metal! The raw as fuck sound only serves to aid the disturbing aura reminiscent of legends like GRIEF and WINTER. Add to that the stomach-churning rumbling of a live MELVINS show and you have a band very highly recommended to all slow-core freaks!! Comes in a kick-ass DVD case!
