The Steppes were old, with mysteries deep under their sand and boulders. The slopes and forests had legends of Power and Glory and the untold numbers of Jarg NoirCour's victims.
Many years ago Jarg was an ordinary Warlord, with family, friends and Duty to King and country. But the stench of Death began to put fear into his heart, causing him to seek out ways to avoid it. In doing so he found and stirred an old Evil which claimed his heart in return for the full power to outrun Death.
The great Twin Towers held fast his secrets as the change came upon him. The Warlord became ruthless-less forgiving. His family disappeared or died well before their alloted time. He gradually became infamous for his cruelty. Even the King, who had profited mightly by his deeds, disowned Jarg-
The Towers grew in mystery and power-their dark battlements wreathed in uncanny mists and wyrd lights that played upon the walls.Strange beings haunted the forests round the Towers and villages became ghost towns.Jarg rampaged unchecked across the North Face of the Continent at the time our story begins.
Jarg was in the process of decimating a town, but this one was different. It was the home of an old friend, Lord Reen.Reen had thwarted Jarg when he sought to kill a group of prisoners who had already surrendered. Reen had turned the troops against him. None challenged Jarg and lived! None! Somewhere deep inside, Jarg felt a temporary twinge, but not for long. he gained entry as a friend, then proceeded to murder Reen, pillage torture and rape-maiming and killing all but a few helpless women, who he discarded on the wayside as they left.
For years Jarg reigned unchallenged across the Desert Steppes.
Then came the return of One he had wronged. One bound by the taste of gorge.
By the murder of Family.
By Blood Honour and the True Light.
The Fellowship will rise and Jarg must fall.
