on to buze, home of my friend mariette, and of about 15 other people who live in this hamlet in a secluded part of france called the creuse, where the closest town is about 30 kilometers - a 20 minute drive - on narrow winding roads. the air is clean, the water pure, the view of the valley magnificent. here we rest and enjoy the company of our friends. dinner for 20 is usual here. jasper gets along very well with mariette's daughter sophie and little anatole who was born in thailand and found a loving home here.
there was work to be done: the boys helped theophile rebuild a stone wall and jasper was rewarded with an ancient cross, which he calls 'my jewish cross' and that has now found a place on our terrace..
more fun things to do in the country : riding the tractor is a rough sport around here. And gentleman-farmer Paul's sheep provided a biblical note.
three families at buze are involved in the business of re-building and re-modeling homes in the area. we went out one day to admire the work in progress and shared their 'workmen's lunch', a three course meal consisting of an entree, a fine rabbit stew accompanied by a vintage chateau-wine, and a full cheese plateau. you have to give it to the french, they know where their priorities are...
our cat zander was born here, his mother is still around, but far too busy to remember him. if she only knew how her son is being pampered here in holland, sleeping on a heated waterbed...
