We're off to see the dolphins and they even promised us whales. The town of Tarifa, in the background, is a windsurfers' mecca because of the strong winds around the straights of Gibraltar. It has a distinctive hippie-atmosphere, with lots of cool shops and beautiful people.
Our little compact camera didn't perform quite as well as Christi's hi-tech equipment but we did get to see some playful dolphins. The whales didn't show up, according to the boat's staff they are busy with their young.
We also went to Jerez, where they make sherry but also have a famous horse-academy, the other famous one is in Vienna. No pictures allowed during the show, and we really missed Sophie that day.
From the fortified walls of Tarifa you can see Africa on a clear day. The idea that you are looking at another continent is exciting and strange. You could even see the lights on the Moroccan shores !
We found a nice beach cafe that played mostly flamenco music and also the band 'Radio Tarifa' which has influences from arab music as well as lounge and free-jazz. Check them out on the internet, you won't be disappointed.
