| Situated along the western bank of the Ganges, Rishikesh draws people from miles intent upon absolving their sins with a single dip in the near freezing water. In the evenings you can hear religious chants echo off the water and see prayer candles flaming down the river. Many sadhus lay their colorful sahris's out to dry in the evenings, providing an artwork that adds to the already intense spiritual setting. Many westerners make rishikesh a destinatioin to study meditation and yoga. We didn't partake in formal studies but found the surroundings quite conducive to both. To the right is Makti, our favorite neighborhood chef, making spinach and pesto pasta. Below are attempts at making chapatis in Laakshman Jhula, Mike and Julie on the Shivand Jula bridge and a view of the bridge from our favorite popcorn vendor. Left? The monkeys here will eat out of your hand. |
