Michelle Williams is at The Strand bookstore in New York
Why She Loves It
"I don't know New York very well, but I know how to get from my apartment to the Strand," says the 18-year-old Montana native, who is spending the summer starring in the off-Broadway production of *Killer Joe*, a dark comedy by Tracy Letts. Located in Manhattan's East Village, the sprawling, legendary, 72-year-old Strand is overflowing with books. "My friend Jake took me about a year ago, and I loved it," Williams says. "Usually, used-book stores are filled with trashy romance novels, but the Strand has some amazing stuff -like the 'Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders', which is the last book I bought. There are books outside, where it's nice and airy, and when you go inside, there are tunnels of books where you can find just about anything. It feels like a safe haven. Summer, a cool place and a good book - what more could I possibly ask for?"
