Dawson's Williams Disses Maxim by Mr. Showbiz *Mr. Showbiz Online - June 1999*

From the "mad as hell and not going to take it any more" file, we bring you the following rant from Dawson's Creek-er and Maxim magazine cover girl Michelle Williams. Seems Williams is none too pleased with the magazine's emphasis on cheesecake, and she makes her feelings known in the current issue of the New York-based arts and entertainment monthly Paper. "It's such a clich," she says of her Maxim shoot, "but I felt like a piece of meat. I felt objectified. It wasn't about telling a story with pictures, it was about getting me into the tightest, shortest, most provocative thing they could find." The current issue of Maxim features Williams on the cover in a slinky red slip dress to highlight a feature story ranking Hollywood's Top 10 "young, sexy sweethearts." Williams tops the list, beating out the likes of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Reese Witherspoon, but don't think she's about to thank Maxim for the honor. "That's not me," she says of the bombshell on the cover of the popular men's mag. "That's some fuckin' freaky girl." Maxim's editors were reportedly unhappy with the results of Williams' photo session and asked her to do a reshoot, a request she was only too happy to turn down. The Creek starlet also tells Paper that she has, "huge body issues. I've sworn off beauty magazines because they only make me feel ugly and depressed. I don't live up to what I see in the magazines. I'm never going to be Amber fuckin' Valletta." Not that she's uncomfortable with baring her soul - and, um, everything else - if, say, it's for the edification of the theatergoing public. While on summer break from the WB, Williams has been appearing off-Broadway in a production of the trailer trash drama Killer Joe, which includes a scene that requires her to entirely disrobe. "[That]'s an important scene, and I feel justified in doing it," she tells Paper. "It's a very uncomfortable moment in the play, but it's been really [liberating] for me." For the record, it should be noted that Williams also rated a cover shot from Paper. She's not wearing a slip dress, but it would be darned hard to argue that the bikini top and mini shorts she does have on are less revealing than her Maxim ensemble. Fans anxious for a Williams fix can see their fave Dawson's hottie Aug. 4 in the presidential comedy Dick.
