Verb ser

Verb to be corresponds to two different verbs in Portuguese: ser and estar. Generally speaking, you should use:

1. Verb ser to talk about permanent states and situations, and also to talk about people's qualities;

2. Verb estar to talk about temporary states and situations, and also to talk about location and people's state of mind.

Verb ser is one of the verbs that presents most irregularities in the language, so you must learn its conjugation by heart.
