Verb fazer is used to talk about:

1. Weather conditions, e.g.:

Fez muito calor ontem. = It was very hot yesterday.

O repórter disse que fará sol amanhã. = The reporter said it will be sunny tomorrow.

Fez trinta e três graus ontem. = It was thirty-three degrees (Celsius) yesterday.

Verb fazer is only used in the third person singular when it refers to weather conditions and temperature.

2. Time length, e.g.:

Faz cinco anos que trabalho aqui. = I've been working here for two years.

Faz muito tempo... = It's been a long time...

Generally speaking, verb fazer corresponds to verbs to do and to make, e.g.:

Ela sempre faz a lição de casa. = He always does his homework.

A vovó fez um bolo de chocolate delicioso  = Grandma made a delicious chocolate cake.

Ela deve ter feito alguma coisa errada. = She must have done something wrong.

It is also used in a number of phrases and expressions you will have to commit to memory:

Não fiz a barba hoje de manhã. = I didn't shave this morning.

Não faz mal. = It doesn't matter.
