1. All proparoxítonas are accented with an acute accent (for open vowels), or with a circunflex accent (for nasal vowels).

2. Paroxítonas ending in l, n, r and x are accented with an acute or a circumflex accent.

3. Paroxítonas ending in a diphthong are always accented with an acute or a circumflex accent.

 

 

gíria (slang)

sírio (Syrian)

telúrio (tellurium)

 

 

4. Oxítonas ending in a, as, e, es o and os are always accented.

avó (grandmother)

retrós (spool)

alô (hello)

 

 

5. Monossílabos ending in a, as, e, es, o and os are always accented.

sã (healthy)

fé (faith)
